Stuart Carey’s vivid expressionistic paintings are infused with the elements of jazz: rhythm, texture, and improvisation within a framework. His work reflects his perception of the world as dynamic energy and color that are in constant motion.
Carey’s work has been exhibited at the Wildman Gallery of British Columbia; Design Logic; SOhO; Roy; and most recently in solo shows in Santa Barbara, California at Seven, “Kinetic Aesthetic” and “Colordoscopic”, the Piano Riviera Lounge, and in collaboration with award-winning photographer Patricia Houghton Clarke in the exhibition, “About Face” at SBTC. Carey’s work is also in private collections in California, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Washington, Oregon and Texas.
A visual and performing artist since his youth, Carey has also expressed his versatile talent as a singer, actor, dancer and choreographer in professional theatre. He performs as a jazz vocalist with his band, X-Tet and is featured regularly in various venues in Santa Barbara.
A native Californian, Carey lives and works in his Carpinteria loft.
